Lucky you, you're so tiny

Sorry say that again? Lucky?

I don't know if people say that to fill up the silence (you know, some people get uncomfortable with silence), or they genuinely think people are lucky to be tiny. Hey fellow tiny/petite people, do you get that a lot? I'm pretty sure you can relate to this? Pfftt...

Well first things first, I'm not complaining nor bitter about being tiny (yes I am VERY tiny), but... it's not as dandy as you may think it is yo.

*Disclaimer: I'm happy with how I look tqvm :)

I was kinda 'inspired' to write this from a conversation I had with someone today and she totally gets me! She understands the pain bahaha, and went on to tell me that I should write an article on this topic and get it out there so this 'lucky to be tiny' thing is no longer a thing, ya'know?

So here goes, my attempt in helping you understand our struggles and list it down one by one:

1) It's a costly affair
Can we have a moment of silence for this very unfortunate fact please? Nothing fits us properly.
If it fits here, it doesn't fit there. Cropped tops aren't really cropped... -_-"
Hence, this results in us needing to pay regular visits to seamstresses/tailors. Altering clothes would cost anything from RM15-100 per piece and yes, whenever we beli baju and the tag shows RM50, dude it's actually RM75.

2) No one takes us seriously
Because we are tiny, we appear to look more like kiddos. So, serious talks sometimes appear 'cute' to some people. I mean, come on, it's not cute, I'm trying to tell you about country politics and world evolution here...

3) Trying too hard
I've gotten comments like 'why you trying so hard to look grown up' a lot. Err don't mean to potong your stim but I am a grown woman who is old enough to have 3 kids (but I don't, phew) and I dress my age. I'm just so small that you think I'm a kid wearing her mommy's clothes... -_-"

4) Excuse me sir/ma'am, can you help me with that please?
This is a very common problem. Grocery shopping or even clothes shopping alone can be quite daunting :( Why do people display things so high up for? Think about all the little hobbits like me roaming around who can only see and can't touch... Sometimes I wish I had a mini portable ladder in my bag. Inventors? An idea for you? Trust me you have your first customer here. *Raise hands*

5) Concerts
Either VIP tickets or elevated areas thank you. Free standing sounds good but that would mean I would be watching a bunch of bobbing heads and cell phones flinging around instead of watching the performers on stage.

6) Every little bulge shows
Because we are small in scale, ada sikit food baby also tak boleh. Quite impossible to hide it away. It SHOWS.

7) Oh you will suffer next time
This one particularly comes from aunties. They will say things like "You're so small, next time it's gonna be hard for you when you are pregnant and to give birth". Thanks aunty, thanks. Appreciate your 'concern' for me and for scaring me even before I get married. I'm so looking forward to have a baby now pfft.
This is another statement where I feel like they say it just to fill in the silence.

8) Oh how can you say you are fat, you're so SMALL!
Hello you mean petite people will never put on weight? Whenever I put on weight, as a passing statement I would utter "I've put on weight wei, need to cut down on rice yada yada yada" and the moment I say this, I get death stares! The replies I get will usually be "if you're fat, then what am I??"
I mean, No.1, I did not say I am fat, I said I put on weight (Means from 50kg to 60kg you know?), which is a fact. No.2, no one is comparing, it's just a statement sheesh. No.3, small people can also put on weight ok, we are still humans by the way.

9) Small people are so insecure
People always say petite people are usually fiercer due to their size. They need to compensate their small-ness by being garang, and that's how the term 'chili padi' came about. I guess there is some truths to that but insecurities can be caused by so many other factors as well no? It's not limited to just petite people. Insecurity is not a small people problem *rolls eyes*.

I guess there a lot more little little statements that has been said to me over time but these are the top of the list for now. I find it funny sometimes but most times, I find it annoying... STAHP! Teehee.
Small people, what are some of the 'struggles' you face? Care to share? ;)
